Updates on Baby X from Day 70 of Pregnancy Bed Rest

Day 70. Holy smokes.

When I first found out that I was going to be on pregnancy bed rest, the doctor set a goal for me to make it to June 20th because I would then be entering a much safer zone for delivery. At the time, it was April and June might as well have been Christmas. Of next year. I smiled and nodded and knew deep in my heart that the baby would never stay in until that date.

Happy June 20th, everyone!

He’s cooking and cooking and I get bigger and more uncomfortable every day. I’ve had almost no complications from the surgery, so other than the fact that I’m sore all the time from being in bed I don’t have any medical stuff going on at all right now. I passed the gestational diabetes test and somehow, despite a steady stream of fast food and sweets coming into the bedroom from well-wishers, I’ve only gained about 8 pounds for this pregnancy which keeps me in the healthy range.

As for Baby X, he’s a big ‘un. They had him measuring a couple of weeks ahead of schedule when we went in for an ultrasound about three weeks ago, which is great since it’s still likely that he’ll come early. Realistically, with both Kyle and I measuring in at 5’11”, it’s not like we were going to grow small babies, so his big measurements don’t mean that all his pieces (lungs, brain, etc.) are measuring ahead of schedule but I’m optimistic that he at least will be big enough when he comes to skip a long NICU stay.

The next goal is a healthy delivery. I’m going all natural this time to avoid another horrifying epidural experience and even though I’m not thrilled at the idea, I am pretty happy to have reached this point at all. If anyone out there has any wise words on pain management, you definitely have my full attention!

I promise to toast you tomorrow, but for now, Happy June 20th! I’m so glad that Baby X is almost fully “cooked” and ready to meet you.

It seems really scary, but going all natural wasn’t too bad 🙂 Seriously though, I was only in “real” pain for about an hour and within a few weeks you’ll forget what it felt like. I know for our next one ill be doing the same thing again.

Oh, there was a tv on in the background. I don’t even remember what was on, but it helped distract me while I was pushing. And when I wasn’t, I tried to “sleep”. I knew I wasn’t actually going to fall asleep, but that’s the place I tried to put my mind.
