After Calvin and I had our early morning vineyard date, Kyle wanted to take a trip up the highway to see what trouble we could get into. So, we got up, got dressed, and packed the kids into the van to see the hot air balloons rising up over the vineyards. You have to get up early to see the balloons but if you’re lucky enough to time it right you can see 20-30 over the course of a half hour. Eva had only ever seen one from a distance, so she was positively thrilled.
We followed balloon watching up with a quick bite to eat at Gott’s Roadside, which is consistently my hands-down favorite place to get breakfast in the Napa Valley. On our way back, we stopped in at Dean and DeLuca because Kyle had never been there. It’s a dangerous place if you’re a foodie because they’ve taken everything delicious in the world and put a (high!) price tag on it, but if you’re looking for the things that the rich and famous snack on, this is the place. I don’t know how people who live in the area resist popping in all the time for just a little something. Food heaven. (If you’re curious, they have a pretty big online retail selection. Dust off that credit card!)
