The sandwich scene in Salt Lake City is kind surprisingly diverse with a little something for everyone. When I spent four months on pregnancy bed rest, Kyle helped me become very acquainted with the carry-out sandwiches of SLC so I thought I’d pass my 5 favorites on to you:
#5: Crawfish Po Boy Sandwich from The Bayou. This cajun sandwich is delicious and the sweet potato fries with garlic aioli from the Bayou are by far the best side you can get anywhere in the city.
#4: Southern Fried Chicken Sandwich from Ruth’s Diner. This is a ton of meat so it’s a very hearty choice but somehow the fried chicken manages to be crisp without being greasy.
#3: Reuben on Sourdough from Feldman’s Deli. Feldman’s is the best Jewish deli in the city and their reuben is delicious. That being said, I always have to get it on sourdough because I’m allergic to rye and the purists at the restaurant have informed me that a reuben on sourdough isn’t a “true” reuben. Still, this faux reuben is pretty amazing.
#2: Meatball Sub from Tony Caputo’s. These meatballs are amazing. Just don’t order this unless you have access to a whoooole lot of napkins and wet wipes.
#1: Muffaletta from The Bayou. The Bayou gets another spot on the list with the muffaletta, which is easily the greatest sandwich I’ve ever eaten in any restaurant in any city in the history of the world. Sadly, pregnant women should steer clear of this one since it’s cold cuts…although I ordered a few during bed rest and just microwaved the heck out of them. Yum…
