Wish List for Your Second Pregnancy

I have great news! And it doesn’t involve me being pregnant!

My friend Kate is expecting a little boy this spring! You’ll remember Kate from her posts during her first pregnancy, including her ever popular birth story, and I’m so excited that her family is growing again. I asked her what was different about this pregnancy, besides the fact that she’s spending it running after a cute toddler, and she said that having a solid idea about what she needed and didn’t need the last time around really makes a difference.

In that spirit, I put together a very grounded and practical wish list for your second pregnancy (with input from Kate of course). It doesn’t have a lot of the sweet and sentimental things that first time moms are drawn to (no designer maternity shirts here) but it does have a lot of useful stuff and some indulgences you might not realize you really need!

(1) Zollipops The Clean Teeth Pops – These lollipops help with nausea! They were invented by a kid entrepreneur and are dentist approved, which is great since you don’t have time to go to the dentist and your teeth are extra sensitive during pregnancy! /// (2) You Were the First and The New Baby – These are my two favorite books for new siblings. The Mercer Mayer book is an extra cute introduction to life with a baby in the house but the other one is a nice nod to all of those moments you had with your first baby, with just a hint of the next baby at the end, so it works either as an introduction or as a hospital gift. /// (3) Belli Anti-Blemish Facial Wash – Pregnancy hormones aren’t nice to your skin, but this stuff is. It’s safe to use when pregnant (not all facial wash can say the same!) and it leaves your skin feeling wonderful. /// (4) Purell Advanced Hand Sanitizer Refreshing Gel – Don’t get sick. Your immune system is all weak and you probably have a little kid in the house, but your already stuffy nose doesn’t need any more stuffiness. /// (5) Cozy Bump Maternity Pillow – This pillow lets you lie on your stomach to stretch out those hips and get some decent sleep. The nice thing about this one is that it’s inflatable so it’s very light (i.e. you can throw it on the ground of the playroom while your other kid crawls around) and you can pack it to travel. /// (6) One Line a Day: A Five-Year Memory Book – Doing those baby memory books is one of those impossible tasks only one in twenty moms actually seems to manage, but writing down just one or two lines a day will help you remember your pregnancy and your baby’s early days and it’s also a good way to keep track of how you’re feeling, any changes, etc. for your doctor. /// (7) TheraBand Foot Roller for Foot Pain Relief – Feet tend to have a harder time in a second pregnancy. They grow and stretch more (blah!) which means they also hurt more. This roller really helps with the soreness at the end of the day.
